The Commemorative Air Force (CAF), Houston Wing will host the popular Warbird Weekend at their museum at the West Houston Airport May 23rd and 24th ( rescheduled from April 18th and 19th). Texas Raiders - B-17, Glamorous Glen III - P-51 Mustang , the only flying SB2C dive-bomber Helldiver, replica Japanese Zeros from the TORA, TORA, TORA performance unit and the Vietnam era CH-46 “Sea Knight” helicopter will all be in attendance. We will also host various WWII warbirds that will be on display and available for public flights. Visiting aircraft will offer cockpit tours for the entire weekend.
For the past 18 years, Warbird Weekend has emerged as one of the most entertaining annual World War II and 1940s themed events in Houston. It is a can’t-miss experience for anyone who enjoys nostalgia, historic aircraft and military vehicles and antique cars. Families will also enjoy reenactors from the 6th Cavalry in authentic uniforms with restored ground vehicles and an anti-aircraft gun mount from the Battleship Texas. Local vocal artist, Maria Thorne will perform Big Band standards from the 1940s both days. Warbird Weekend is an excellent way to honor the heroes of the “Greatest Generation” and educate all ages about the WWII experience and the technology of aviation.
